Announcement to Members
To all VCON members:
** UPDATE, Nov 4, 2011 **
This issue has been successfully resolved to the satisfaction of all parties involved.
The resolution came after a review of feedback submitted by several VCON members in conjunction with a face-to-face dinner meeting between the parties involved. At the core, the situation resulted from a clash between the expectations of two groups of musicians. This resulted in the unfortunate misinterpretation of certain actions and comments which, in turn, greatly upset some individuals. (Note that we do not wish to identify those who were involved directly to respect their privacy.)
The VCON 36 ConCom acknowledges that we are partially at fault for this issue as we failed to fully communicate the nature of the Filk Room to one of the groups. If we had not failed in this way, their expectations would have been different and the clash would not have occured.
Our thanks to everyone who took the time to provide us with their recollections of the evening.

Stories have begun circulating about an unfortunate incident that occurred in the VCON 36 filk room on the evening of Friday, Sep 30. We would like everyone to know that we are aware of the situation and are looking into it quite seriously. In the interim, please be assured that VCON strongly supports the filk community and we are all deeply sorry that anything happened during the convention that might make anyone think otherwise.
