Gaming has long been a part of convention life. Fans and gaming have always gone together. There has been a ConCom position in charge of organising gaming at VCON since VCON 12, in 1984, although there were panels on subjects like "Dungeons & Dragons" as early as VCON 6 in 1978.
The VCON Games Room offers a variety of different gaming activities that should please almost anyone. We will have all the usual suspects on hand with a healthy mix of board games, card games, roleplaying games, mini’s games, etc. Anyone with suggestions, questions or comments regarding Gaming at VCON can contact the VCON Games Coordinator at gam{click-to-expand}@vcon.ca .

Games Room Hours | Game Tables | Game Hosting | Special Game Events | Game Hosts
Games Room Hours
The VCON Games room will be open for free-play and booked table games 24 hours a day starting from Noon Friday and going until 7pm on Sunday.
Scheduled Games will run during the following core gaming hours:
- Friday, Noon to 11pm
- Saturday, 10am to Midnight
- Sunday, 10am to 7pm
Game Tables
The VCON Games Room will have two types of gaming tables available:
- Hosted - pre booked tables for 1 or several sessions including weekend hosts
-
These are tables where pre-scheduled gaming events run by a dedicated game host will be held during VCON’s core gaming hours.
These tables provide a way for someone to obtain guaranteed access to a table in the games room at a specific time. Members can drop in and join whatever games the host runs out of the library of games they've brought with them. While the majority of the events will be scheduled game play these tables may also host game demos, focused round table discussions on gaming topics or other similar events.
If you don't want to commit to a particular time until you're at the convention and after having found out what else is going on during the weekend you can still book a table at the con! Time slots can be booked through the VCON Games Coordinator during the convention on a first come first served basis.
Details for each booking will be posted in the games room but additional promotion of booked table games is the responsibility of the booking member. - Free-Play - tables not being used (subject to availability)
-
Bring in your own game supplies and start up a pick-up game of any kind at any time. Whether it’s a board game, a card game, a roleplaying game or something else, pick a table, find some other interested members and go to it!
We also offer the VCON Game Library to members during core gaming hours. This is a collection of familiar classics and interesting newer games that the convention has been collecting over the past several years. These games may be borrowed from the library by any VCON member and used on the Free-Play tables.

According to the NBC website: Ten challenges using household items. 60 seconds on the clock. $1 million on the line. Think you can do it? You've got a Minute to Win It. NBC's newest sensation hosted by chef and TV personality Guy Fieri ("Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives") has started a game revolution online and across the country. People are playing these deceptively difficult games at home, at work and at parties. The show features everyday Americans competing in 60-second challenges with household objects for a shot at a million bucks. But as the money increases, so does the level of difficulty. After winning some money, will contestants stay and play, or take the cash and dash? Each show offers new twists: from celebrity contestants, to summer-themed games, challenges using office supplies, as well as teams of twins, couples, and practical strangers that will have you shouting, "Did you see that?!" So what's different in VCON's version?
(Check the Programming Schedule for time and location) What follows is the list of games that could potentially be played during VCON's Minute-to-Win-It game. Game Hosts
The following game table hosts and individual game hosts will be running games in the VCON Games Room. As more hosts are confirmed information about each will be added to the list.

| Aldo Santolla | Aldo has been an avid game player for a very long time. He started off playing board games back in high school when Avalon Hill games were prominent in the 70’s and 80’s; titles like Air Force, Flat Top, Bismarck, The Russian Campaign, King Maker, Third Reich, and many, many more. He did a large amount of RPG gaming as well. Started with AD&D, and then found others like Palladium, Chivalry & Sorcery, Cyberpunk, Traveller: 2300 AD, and Hârn. That was then ... now his primary gaming involves a few friends and family playing many kinds of the Euro-Games that have migrated to the market. He says, “Settlers of Catan and its expansions seems to be the one my family enjoys the most... :-| I can take or leave it.” The primary games that he now plays, whenever he gets a chance (and players) are HârnMaster and Star Fleet Battles. He will sprinkle in the odd Euro-Game from time to time. Aldo will be running five gaming sessions over the weekend. Four board games (Agricola, 1830: Railroads and Robber Barons, Battlestar Galactica and Star Fleet Battles) and one RPG (Hârnmaster). |
| Anthony Santiago | Anthony plans to run the following games over the weekend: Mansions of Madness (Fantasy Flight Games) Designed by Corey Konieczka, Mansions of Madness is a macabre game of horror, insanity, and mystery for two to five players. Each game takes place within a pre-designed story that provides players with a unique map and several combinations of plot threads. These threads affect the monsters that investigators may encounter, the clues they need to find, and which climactic story ending they will ultimately experience. One player takes on the role of the keeper, controlling the monsters and other malicious powers within the story. The other players take on the role of investigators, searching for answers while struggling to survive with their minds intact. Do you dare enter the Mansions of Madness? DungeonQuest (Fantasy Flight Games) DQ is a re-imagining of the classic board game of dungeon exploration for 1-4 players. Set in the vibrant fantasy realm of Terrinoth (first popularized by Runebound), DungeonQuest retains the peril, tension, and brutality of the beloved original game while updating both mechanical and thematic elements. Players take on the roles of courageous (or foolish) heroes willing to brave the legendary dangers of Dragonfire Dungeon. Fortune awaits those able to venture into the dragon's lair... Fury of Dracula (Fantasy Flight Games) In this game of Gothic adventure, one player takes the role of Dracula while up to four others attempt to stop him by controlling Vampire hunters from the famous Bram Stoker novel. Dracula has returned, and is determined to control all of Europe by creating an undead empire of Vampires. Dracula uses a deck of location cards to secretly travel through Europe, leaving a trail of encounters and events for the hunters that chase him. Meanwhile, the hunters attempt to track and destroy Dracula using the limited information available to them - a task easier said than done when their prey has the power to change forms into a wolf or bat, and can even melt away into the mist when confronted. To save Europe and rid the world of Dracula's foul plague, the hunters must destroy Dracula before he earns enough victory points to win the game... will they have enough wit and bravery to defeat the dark count? |
| Colin Fraser | Colin has been Euro-gaming ever since he downloaded Carcassone
and Settlers of Catan back in 2005. Since then, he has moved from New Brunswick to
South Korea to Vancouver, painfully toting hundreds of books and dozens of games
between locations. If you're interested in becoming a group of backstabbing adventurers hunting for magical stones in dungeons populated with all manner of deadly beasties, swing by for a game or two of the deck-building game Thunderstone. If galactic conquest is more your speed, try a hand or two of Race for the Galaxy. If your dream has always been to hop in a spaceship made of sewer pipes and truck space garbage around a circular track full of asteroids and slavers, Galaxy Trucker won't disappoint. |
| Douglas Lloyd | Douglas is a part time writer of short stories and RPG adventures. Originally from Burnaby, he currently lives in the Fraser Valley where he play-tests game adventures at a local coffee shop. He divides his creative time between writing, play-testing and gaming. He has routinely visits the hobby stores in the Greater Vancouver Area. He also enjoys the outdoors; he finds that hiking and walking are a great source of inspiration for many of the short stories he writes. His first adventure 'Where is My Spellbook?' was published in 2010 by Blackbyrne Publishing, a licensed third party publisher of Dungeons & Dragons and Pathfinder RPGs. He is currently working on an adventure for Blackbyrne, and is a contributing writer in their campaign setting due out in winter 2010\2011. (www.BlackbyrnePublishing.com) |
| GottaCon | Once again the representatives for GottaCon will be hosting
games at VCON. Come see them, ask them about their convention and see what
entertaining games they brought! A little about their convention: GottaCon will run 24hrs a day starting at 5pm Friday February 3rd and will continue with non-stop gaming until 7pm February 5th. | M3 Gamers | M3 Gamers has been around for the last 5 years, and been participating at VCON for just as long. Although many of our members have been attending VCON for much longer. We started out as a small group of about 6 friends who enjoyed getting together on the weekends playing the latest board games. We are now at 20 plus members and continue to get together on a monthly basis to play our favorite board games. We will be running two tables this year at VCON and have some great new games we are eager to showcase and of course we'll be bringing along the con favourites. This year we are featuring themes for the different time slots, similar to our monthly theme nights: like travel games (Ticket to Ride, 10 Days in... games), Mystery (like Harry Potter Clue, or Mystery in the Abbey) and many more, please watch the program for scheduled events and times. During the weekend we will be featuring a couple of tournaments such as Dominion, Settlers of Catan, Resident Evil and more. Please check your schedule for more information on times and signing up. Saturday night we will be hosting a late/night early morning game of Talisman starting somewhere around10:00pm and going until well... whenever! Space will be limited for this game so please sign up early. We look forward to another great year in the VCON gaming room. |
| Matthew Seagle | Matthew has been gaming since he was a lad, board game night
was a popular staple among his family, a tradition he carries on to this day. He
is a fair and just host, and is patient. However he will not put up with any
douchebaggery. None at all sir. He loves Axis and Allies, and considers it a crime against the universe that he can count on one hand how many times in his life he has played a full game from start to finish. Well that ends NOW. He will be proudly hosting Axis and Allies, Anniversery Edition (the one where you can play as Italy, so bring a newbie friend) for most of the day. Also be sure to bring your war face, he'll be expecting it. |
| Steve Jackson Games | Whether you're looking to overthrow the aristocracy, eat some brains, or just to kill the monsters and take all their stuff, Steve Jackson Games has you covered! Our highly trained Men In Black will be on hand with a variety of games for your entertainment - including Munchkin. This year, four members of the Men In Black will be teaching games to any new players and accepting challenges from all comers. Whether it's a hilarious game of Munchkin, a quick game of Zombie Dice, or anything in between, the Illuminati are watching. fnord |
